🌊 Venice Canals – The “Venice of America”
In 1905, developer Abbot Kinney had a bold vision: recreate the romance of Venice, Italy, right on the Southern California coast.

He transformed marshland into a network of picturesque canals lined with Italian-style homes, arched pedestrian bridges, gondolas, and even electric streetcars. The area was called the “Venice of America” and quickly became one of the most glamorous beach resorts in the region.

While much of the original amusement park and attractions are gone, the historic canals remain — offering a peaceful glimpse into early 20th-century coastal California.

Just a few blocks from the energy and crowds of the Venice Boardwalk, the canals feel like a hidden world: quiet pathways, charming footbridges, and reflections of homes on calm water.

Dell Avenue is one of the easiest and most scenic access points, running directly alongside the water and crossing several of the iconic pedestrian bridges.
