Oceano (Pismo) Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area

Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area (SVRA), formerly known as Pismo Dunes SVRA, is a unique coastal sand dune complex located on California's Central Coast within the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes. It is the only state park in California where visitors can drive vehicles on the beach. The area has been a popular site for off-highway vehicle (OHV) enthusiasts, offering activities such as swimming, surfing, surf fishing, camping, and hiking. Historically, the dunes were inhabited by the Chumash Indians, and evidence of their presence remains in the form of "middens," old trash dumps piled high with clam and shellfish shells.
