Japanese American National Museum (Little Tokyo)

The Japanese American National Museum (JANM) is dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and culture of Japanese Americans. Founded in 1992 and located in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, the museum was established to document over 130 years of Japanese American experiences—from early immigration and the internment during World War II to contemporary community contributions. Housed originally in a historic Buddhist temple building, JANM has grown into a national institution with extensive collections, interactive exhibits, and programs that celebrate the resilience and diverse heritage of Japanese Americans.

What to do there.
Visitors can explore permanent and rotating exhibitions that showcase artifacts, photographs, films, and oral histories; attend cultural events, film screenings, and educational workshops; participate in guided tours and family programs; and experience special exhibitions that highlight different aspects of Japanese American history and contemporary culture.
