MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art)

Established in 1979 as the only artist‑founded museum in Los Angeles, MOCA is dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting contemporary art created after 1940. Over the decades, it has grown from a temporary exhibit space to a multi‑venue institution that includes MOCA Grand Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles and The Geffen Contemporary in Little Tokyo. Designed by architect Arata Isozaki, MOCA Grand Avenue opened in 1987 as a sunken, red‑sandstone‑clad building and has become a cultural landmark dedicated exclusively to contemporary art.
