Sand Dune Park "The Secret Dune"

Sand Dune Park is one of the last visible remnants of the massive coastal dune fields that once covered much of Manhattan Beach’s north end—before large portions were leveled or removed to make the city buildable.

Tucked inside a quiet residential neighborhood, the dune almost feels like it “appears out of nowhere.” You walk through a calm community park… and suddenly there’s a steep, towering sand hill. That surprise factor is part of its local “secret dune” charm.

The surrounding park was developed in the mid-20th century. By the 1960s, the site had been organized into a neighborhood park, back when the area still carried more of its old “sand and beach cottages” character.

Today, the dune is famous as a serious workout spot. Locals sprint straight up the soft sand for intense leg training, while kids treat it like a mini sand mountain. It’s easily one of the most unique “Only in LA” parks.
