Randy’s Donuts first opened in 1953 in Inglewood, right along Manchester Boulevard — perfectly positioned during Southern California’s golden age of car culture.

The now-iconic 32-foot-tall rooftop donut wasn’t just decoration. It was a bold roadside marketing strategy designed to grab the attention of passing drivers.

The building was originally part of the Big Donut Drive-In chain and built in a style known as programmatic architecture — where the shape of the building itself advertises what’s being sold. In 1977, the shop officially became known as Randy’s Donuts.
