Maguire Gardens (at Central Library)

Maguire Gardens is a public garden that surrounds the historic Central Library in Downtown Los Angeles. Originally a parking lot, the space was transformed in 1988 through public advocacy and visionary development by Robert Maguire. Designed in collaboration with landscape architect Lawrence Halprin and preservation architects Campbell & Campbell, the gardens incorporate tiered fountains, landscaped walkways, and site-specific public art that complement the Egyptian Revival style of the Central Library. A plaque onsite acknowledges the design team’s contribution.

What to do there.
Visitors can relax on the lawns, enjoy the unique fountains and landscaped walkways, have a picnic, or simply appreciate the outdoor art and historical ambiance. It’s an ideal spot for reading, leisurely strolls, and taking in views of the surrounding downtown architecture.
